Above Home, Beyond the Sea
Commissioned by pianist Annie Jeng, Above Home, Beyond the Sea is a piano solo work based on a famous Chinese folk song, "Ocean, My Mother." Deeply touched by Annie's personal story around the song, I decided to expand upon the original meaning this song expresses, and to wave different emotions including nostalgia, grief, anger, and bittersweet into the work.
Above Home, Beyond the Sea was premiered by Annie Jeng in partial fulfillment of the requirements for her DMA degree at the University of Michigan, on Feb. 26, 2019.
